Clinton and Carla’s beach engagement session

Clinton and Carla’s beach engagement session

We ran, we splashed in the ocean, and we took photos on a beautiful rock overlooking the sea. And when we were done with that, Clinton and Carla got to have some fun with their two favourites – Glencoe and Snowy!

Carla has been following my work for the longest time, and has also shown the kindest support with lovely comments on posts. So it was so amazing to be able to have her in front of my lens and create magic for her.

When discussing locations, Carla wanted something that reflected ‘them’ and so this lookout point was chosen and couldn’t have been more incredible.

I can’t wait for their wedding next year, and get to create beautiful photos all over again!

Enjoy! x

Tips to Completely Rock Your Couple Shoot

Tips to Completely Rock Your Couple Shoot

With the new wedding season, comes the super busy engagement season right on its heels too so I thought what better time to talk about engagement shoots and how to rock your couple shoot?!

The new season starts next week for me, and I am so beyond grateful that my year has been booked out! It does mean sacrificing my weekends with C and Ella, but it also means I get to do what I love with some amazing people, and share in their happiness too.

For some (most) people, having their photo taken is downright unnerving. I completely get that! I can’t tell you how awkward I am in front of the camera! But whether you love it or hate it, there’s no better way to celebrate your engagement than with a couple shoot to remember this time of your life by.

Here’s a bit of advice I’ve put together to help you prepare, and make the most of your shoot!

WEAR WHAT YOU LOVE

Being YOU is the best way to get great photos. I can only capture who you are, if you be YOU. Wearing clothes that you are comfortable, and confident in, helps to make you feel more at ease in front of my camera. Keep it simple and clean.

PICK AN ENVIRONMENT THAT REFLECTS WHO YOU ARE

Whether that’s sipping on your favourite latte because you’re a coffee addict, or climbing up rock faces to overlook the sea, choose a location that encompasses your lives together. Surround yourself by what you love. Don’t have your shoot on the beach when you haven’t been to the beach in years! Or hate beach sand.  Have your shoot WHERE YOU ARE. If that’s at home, get the kettle on, I’m coming over!

FORGET ABOUT THE PHOTOSHOOT

Forget about what you should be doing, and how you should be doing it, and just be you. If you’re shy, be shy. If you’re loud, be that. I want to keep your couple shoot natural and honest to who you are, and I can only do that if you’re being true to who you are. I shared an image of my daughter having tea with a plastic toy falcon, and people LOVED IT because it was an image of her, in her environment, as she is now, doing what she does now. I’m going to treasure this image forever.

IT’S A KIND OF MAGIC

This engaged feeling. This love. It’s a kind of magic. Embrace it and enjoy it. Spend the day doing fun things together. Take a break from wedding planning. So when it comes to doing your shoot, it’s not just something you’re ticking off your wedding to-do list, but rather another magical part of an already amazing day!

BRING YOU

I promise to give you gentle guidance, so there won’t be any of that awkward ‘what do I do with my hands?’, but more natural laughing, sharing and creating. But it’s still up to you to bring YOU so I can capture you as you are.

Jason and Kerryn’s paddock engagement session

Jason and Kerryn’s paddock engagement session

Here’s the thing about people from small towns who love animals; they have the hugest hearts and warmest personalities.
This is definitely Jason and Kerryn – one of my 2018 wedding couples who I recently met up with for their engagement shoot down in a paddock in Ramsgate, on the south coast.

When a couple ask to include their pets in their engagement sessions – and that includes four dogs and two horses – I know I’m shooting my kind of people!
I had an absolute blast with these two and CANNOT WAIT for their wedding next year! Bring on 2018!!

Charl and Kim | An afternoon stroll and an engagement session

Kim’s hand in Charl’s, we set out on a lovely Sunday afternoon to explore and snap up a few photographs. The light was absolutely perfect on this afternoon and I love how it sparkles all around them!
These two are the perfect pair, and I’m so excited that I get to share in their wedding day next month.

I first met Kim at her sister’s wedding, which I photographed in Umdloti, and loved how kind and caring both these sisters were. That I get to photograph their weddings in the same year is such an honour!

Beautiful Erasmus Family on Umhlanga Beach

Beautiful Erasmus Family on Umhlanga Beach

Is there anything sweeter than a new family? The guessing (is she tired? is she hungry? Is she cold), the joys of each new milestone, the courage, and the teamwork.
I know these feelings all too well!

Eugene, Elana and tiny little Milana visited Umhlanga recently and decided to remember their holiday with a beach family shoot. But a tired little Milana had other plans and only wanted to sleep!
We snapped up these few pics as the sun was setting and before this beautiful little family returned on their way to the Free State.  x

Q and Shirley’s sunrise engagement session

Q and Shirley’s sunrise engagement session

I love engagement sessions, and this one was definitely one that I’m excited to share!
I’ve wanted to do a shoot at this beach spot for months, so I loved that I finally got to use it with this family.
Q, Shirley, Kara and Summer (teddy) met me early on a Sunday morning and we got shooting, hoping that the sun would rise beautifully and we’d get a perfect sunrise. It turned out to be an overcast day but we did get a warm glow and a bit of sunrise so it was still worth the early wake up!

I hope you enjoy these photos Shirley, and see you soon for your wedding! Bring on 2017!
