Can’t decide if you should do an engagement shoot or not? Here are 5 Reasons why I think you absolutely should!
If for nothing else, do it for the awesome photos you’ll get of this special time between you and your other half. He’s gone on one knee, you’ve got the ring and now it’s time to share that exciting news with everyone! What better way than with photos?
Have fun – style it
It’s a time to get creative and have a little fun! Love the beach? Do an early morning sunrise session! Or play around with ideas as a couple and see what best suits you as a couple. Four years ago we did an engagement video (way more stressful than photos, believe me!) and we included our three Scottie dogs. It’s your shoot, let it be fun! Pinterest is a great tool for looking for ideas.
This is so important! I usually meet with my brides ahead of their wedding day and we go through the ideas, plans, details and programme. But by including an engagement session into this pre-wedding meetup, you get to see how your photographer works, laugh at their silly jokes and get to know them when they’re doing what they love – photographing you!
I’m one of those who pulls out the double chin and awkward smile when in front of the camera. e.v.e.r.y.t.i.m.e! But with a good photographer, you should feel at ease as they guide you into poses to help with those awkward smiles. I love a genuine smile and even more so when it’s captured forever. With an engagement shoot, you can get comfortable in front of the camera ahead of the big day.
Save the date
You don’t need to do an engagement shoot six months before your wedding. If you’re only planning on getting married in a year’s time, an engagement session is a fun way to get ‘save the date’ photos done. See a few examples on my pinterest board here.
This is a special time in your lives as a couple and capturing that from the very start of your journey to the chapel is the best way to preserve these memories.
Here are two pics from our engagement shoot a few years back (2011) with Laura Versfeld Photography when studio sessions were all the rage. Looking back at these now, I laugh a little because we’ve changed so much but I still love the photos and the memory of this shoot!
